SAN DIEGO (Aug. 5, 2019) Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) Airman Christopher Paparigopoulos (front) and Airman recruit Isaiah Robinson (back) simulate finding a hot spot with a thermal imaging camera during a crash and salvage training evolution onboard the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8). The ship’s crash and salvage team trains on rescue recoveries in order to be ready to respond in the event of a casualty.
