FORT BENNING, Ga. – An Army Silver Wings parachutist wraps his legs into the line of the Golden Knights parachute as if he were sitting atop the parachute, and a Golden Knight parachutist carries below him a weighted tether and a flag emblazoned with the black-and-gold Army star.Maneuver Center of Excellence and Fort Benning commemorated the 2019 National Airborne Day Aug. 16 at Fryar Drop Zone at Fort Benning. National Airborne Day is the anniversary of the first paratrooper test jump, which took place at Fort Benning 79 years ago. The U.S. Army Parachute Team from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the Silver Wings jump team from Fort Benning and the volunteer Liberty Jump Team performed parachute jumps to honor the history of U.S. Army airborne Soldiers.
