U.S. Army Africa commander, Maj. Gen. David R. Hogg and a group of Soldiers from the U.S. Army’s 490th Civil Affairs Battalion helped organize reading and study materials at a library in Ali Sabieh, Djibouti. Hogg commended the troops for their work with the library. Civil Affairs teams from the 490th developed English discussion groups at the library and distributed more than 5,000 backpacks for school children at 16 schools in the Ali Sabieh area. Hogg and a small group of advisors visited U.S. Army troops at the Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa in Djibouti and attended meetings with African Union mission leaders in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, April 24-27.
