NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (Oct. 11, 2019) Capt. Patrick McGroarty, USS Gerald R. Ford's "oldest" Sailor, and Airman Ashley Simmons, Ford's "youngest" Sailor, cuts a cake celebrating the U.S. Navy's 244th birthday during an all hands call in the ship's hangar bay. It is tradition for the oldest Sailor and youngest Sailor present to cut a ceremonial birthday cake together.
