The Marines visited Salamaua to see former battle sites from World War II where Japanese forces had bases during the war. Koa Moana serves as a joint training exercise between I Marine Expeditionary Force Marines and the Papua New Guinea Defense Force to improve relationships and interoperability within the Indo-Pacific Region.
