LAE, Papua New Guinea -- A Papua New Guinea Defense Force (PNGDF) soldier teaches U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Christopher Dorris , a combat engineer with 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, how to open a coconut during Exercise Koa Moana 19 in Lae, Papua New Guinea, Sept. 23, 2019. The Marines visited the port village of Salamaua to see former battle sites from World War II where Japanese forces had bases during the war. Koa Moana serves as a joint training exercise between I Marine Expeditionary Force Marines and the Papua New Guinea Defense Force to improve relationships and interoperability within the Indo-Pacific Region.
