A U.S. Marine assigned to Marine Corps Security Force Regiment calculates range estimates at the 620-yard line during the unknown distance daytime course of fire as part of a Designated Marksmanship course Oct. 23, 2019, at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, Yorktown, Virginia. The role of a Designated Marksman is to provide precision fire to the unit commander for Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team (FAST) companies and the Recapture Tactics Team. During the course, Marines learn basic designated marksman employment such as security posture, communications, multi-threat engagements, alternate shooting positions, as well as moving target, unknown distance, and limited visibility engagements.
