U.S. Marines assigned to Marine Corps Security Force Regiment create range cards during the unknown distance daytime course of fire as part of a Designated Marksmanship course Oct. 23, 2019, at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, Yorktown, Virginia. Range cards serve as visual aids, which allow Marines to acquire targets in an assigned sector of fire. The role of a Designated Marksman is to provide precision fire to the unit commander for Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team (FAST) companies and the Recapture Tactics Team. During the course, Marines learn basic designated marksman employment such as security posture, communications, multi-threat engagements, alternate shooting positions, as well as moving target, unknown distance, and limited visibility engagements.
