NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (Oct. 25, 2019) Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class Spencer Pearce, from Corpus Christi, Texas, assigned to USS Gerald R. Ford's (CVN 78) weapons department, stands emergency mooring watch with an M-14 with line throwing attachment as Sailors assigned to Ford's deck department flake out line in Ford’s hangar bay. “I just love being out on the open water. You get away from everything and don’t have to worry about much except for your job,” said Pearce. Ford departed Huntington Ingalls Industries-Newport News Shipbuilding and returned to sea for the first time since beginning their post-shakedown availability in July 2018 to conduct sea trials.
