Danielle Ashworth, an archeologist, working for the U.S. Air Force, shovel shaves the soil from the unit into the screens where it is sifted for artifacts, at Avon Park Air Force Range in Florida. The crew must excavate in 10cm levels to control the stratigraphy of the test unit. The deeper they dig, the older the artifacts. Secretary of Interior Standards states you must have two levels of sterile soil before you can stop. (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt. Perry Aston)
