David Davenport, a native of East Nashville, Tennessee, a retired command sergeant major of 1st Armored Division and U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, recalls experiences while he was a cavalry scout with Soldiers assigned to 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, during the division's Torch Week at Fort Bliss, Texas, November 5. 1AD's ‘Torch Week’ is an annual event commemorating the division’s role in the World War II invasion of North Africa, known as ‘Operation Torch,’ as well as to celebrate the division’s history, and honor the everlasting legacy of Iron Soldiers through week-long sporting and morale-boosting events, which promote camaraderie and cohesion throughout the division.
