Vientiane, Laos (Nov. 14, 2019) -- Brig. Gen. Thomas Tickner (left), Pacific Ocean Division commanding general, presents an official coin to thank Mark Ahlstrom (right), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) senior risk advisor and dam safety expert, during a visit to the Government of Laos Ministry of Energy and Mines. Currently, the Corps of Engineers, funded by the U.S. Department of Defense Indo-Pacific Command, is assisting the Lao government to enhance their national dam safety program by providing subject matter experts to work alongside others from the international community in reviewing Laos' emergency dam safety inspection reports. Ahlstrom, along with other members of USACE have been an integral piece in the U.S. government's effort to support Laos' dam safety initiative since the spring of 2019. (Courtesy photo)
