A student with Officer Development School (ODS) class 20010, at Officer Training Command, Newport (OTCN) in Rhode Island, pull-starts the P-100 water pump at the Damage Control Wet Trainer, also known as “BUTTERCUP,” on Nov.15 2019. This is the first cycle where reserve officers who would have previously attended the discontinued, two-week long Direct Commission Officer Indoctrination Course (DCOIC) are attending the five-week ODS course alongside active duty officers. ODS provides Staff Corps Officers and several Restricted Line designators with training necessary to prepare them to function in their role as newly commissioned Naval Officers.
