Under unique circumstances, the transfer of responsibilities of two commands, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe and Marine Corps Forces Africa, is passed on as Sgt. Maj. Ronald L. Green, the outgoing sergeant major, passes the sword, a Marine Corps tradition to signify the relief-and-appointment of positions, to Lt. Gen. John M. Paxton, commander for MFA, before it is presented to Sgt. Maj. James J. McCook, the incoming sergeant major. The two commands welcomed their new senior enlisted leader, McCook, as they bid farewell to Green, May 29, during a relief-and-appointment ceremony at U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart.
