U.S. Air Force Gen. John E. Hyten, former commander of U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), dedicates USSTRATCOM’s new command and control facility (C2F) to U.S. Air Force Gen. Curtis E. LeMay during a ceremony at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., Nov. 18, 2019. LeMay was the commander of Strategic Air Command (precursor to USSTRATCOM) from 1948 – 1957 and established its headquarters at Offutt AFB. This central location became the nerve center of a world-wide bomber-missile force. The C2F is a weapons system is the heart of the nuclear command, control and communications enterprise and which replaces USSTRATCOM’s old headquarters building.
