Local hero, Staff Sgt. (Ret.) Ronald J. Shurer speaks to students, staff and visitors during an honorary ceremony at Rogers High School in Puyallup, Wash. Dec. 6, 2019. Shurer is a local hero who received the Medal of Honor after performing acts of valor on the battlefield in Afghanistan while serving with 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne). Events during the ceremony included a presentation by the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps, a musical performance by the RHS Choir, and speeches by the Student Body President, Megan Gratzer and State Senator Hans Zeiger.
