Retired Lt. Col. Richard “Dick” Trail speaks with 154th Maintenance Group crew chiefs, Master Sgt. Kevin Kalani and Master Sgt. Jeff Barker in the landing gear well area of KC-135 Stratotanker, tail number 60-0329, Oct. 2, 2019, Colorado Springs, CO. 60-0329 was flown during a mission in which the first-ever tri-plane refueling was conducted and earned Trail and his crew the 1967 Mackay Trophy award for the most meritorious flight of the year. 60-0329 currently assigned to the Hawaii Air National Guard 203rd Air Refueling Squadron was used to execute a flyover above the Air Force Academy as part of plaque dedication ceremony at the Plaza of Heroes to honor the contributions of U.S. Air Force Academy graduates who served as KC-135 Stratotanker crew members in the Vietnam War.
