Pvt. Trentarius May speaks to Pfc. Connor James McGurran’s father, Navy Cmdr. Shawn McGurran, during a memorial ceremony Jan. 16 for his son. “Sir, I want to let you know that you are not suffering alone,” May said during his tribute. May was McGurran’s battle buddy during their Basic Combat Training cycle. McGurran was found unresponsive during a field training exercise and was transported to a local trauma center where he was later pronounced dead.
