200203-N-N0101-1285 NAVAL BASE GUAM (Feb. 3, 2020) Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Jonathan Shewchuk and Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Brian Beale drape a flag over a transfer case of fallen service member at the Naval Hospital in Guam. Although unknown to most Sailors, Navy morticians perform a mission that has some of the most far-reaching impacts of any career field in the service. They provide dignity, honor and respect for fallen service members, and more importantly, a sense of closure for grieving families. As the only uniformed morticians in the Department of Defense, they possess a level of education, training and experience far above that of most Sailors in the fleet.
