KIN BLUE, OKINAWA, JAPAN (Jan. 31, 2020) Capt. Benjamin Gentry, a translator with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, assists Capt. Philip Hanf, company commander of Company C, Battalion Landing Team, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, in speaking with Capt. Kenichi Nakashima, the company commander, and 1st Lt. Umezu Yuushi, a platoon commander with the Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade, Japanese Ground Self Defense Force, after a simulated small boat raid. A platoon of the Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade were training alongside the 31st MEU’s small boat company in order to share tactics, techniques, and procedures for amphibious operations, while embarked aboard the amphibious transport dock USS Germantown (LSD-42). Germantown, part of the America Expeditionary Strike Group, 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
