Incoming Task Force Command Sgt. Maj. James H. Nichols takes hold of the TF Grant guidon during a transfer of authority ceremony, June 20, at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling. The terrorist attacks of 9/11 brought multiple urgent defense actions within the U.S. and abroad. April 2003 ushered in the first National Guard Battalion to rotate into the National Capital Region followed by the first National Guard TF in February 2005. TF Grant replaces TF Paladin. TF Grant command and control supports the Homeland Defense mission as part of Operation Noble Eagle.
