PHILIPPINE SEA (Feb. 9, 2020) Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class Trevor Drain, Lake Forest, Calif., aboard the Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship USS Germantown (LSD 42) stands ready to chain a CH-47 helicopter with the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) to the flight deck. Service members of the JGSDF and Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade conducted two weeks of training alongside the Marines and Sailors of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) in order to strengthen bilateral amphibious capabilities. Germantown, part of the America Expeditionary Strike Group, 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
