PHILIPPINE SEA (Feb. 13, 2020) Service members with the Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade (ARDB), Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF), load small-boat engines onto a CH-47 helicopter with the JGSDF aboard Whidbey Island-class the dock landing ship USS Germantown (LSD 42). Service members of the JGSDF and ARDB conducted two weeks of training alongside the Marines and Sailors of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) in order to strengthen bilateral amphibious capabilities. Germantown, part of the America Expeditionary Strike Group, 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
