At the loading pit where the first atomic bomb ever used in combat was loaded aboard the Enola Gay, a B-29 Superfortress, Koku Jieitai (Japan Air Self-Defense Force) Lt. Gen. Shinichi Kaneko, Air Support Command commander, speaks with U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Todd Dozier, 5th Air Force vice commander, during Cope North 20 (CN20) at Tinian, U.S. Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, Feb. 19, 2020. For the first time, three general officers representing the U.S., RAAF and JASDF visited Tinian and observed this historic site together. Exercise Cope North is an annual U.S. Pacific Air Forces tri-lateral field training exercise with participants from the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, Japan Air Self-Defense Force and the Royal Australian Air Force. The primary intent of Cope North is to enhance coordination of combined air tactics, hone techniques and procedures while strengthening security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
