March is recognized internationally as women’s month to honor the contributions of women throughout history. This month allows us the opportunity to recognize and highlight a few women currently serving in the Kosovo Force Regional Command East ranks. Scattered throughout KFOR RC-E women are proving to be idols in their own right as they exemplify attributes of the military’s values and the overall KFOR mission.
Slovenian Armed Forces Master Sgt. Mateja Arko
Prideful yet modest, Arko continues to serve with over 23 years under her belt as a logistics specialist and current team leader of Liaison Monitoring Team “Kilo 15”.
“I am proud to represent SAF during the KFOR mission,” said Arko. “This mission allows me to accomplish my professional ambitions and enhance my skills.”
Arko welcomes the challenge of being one of the few female LMT leaders.
“Working in the LMT suits me because I can use my skills as a communicator to get a better insight into the community's issues and help resolve them,” said Arko.
Her team is like a family to her and she is greatly admired for her leadership and mentorship.
“In the military, it is important to maintain respect and your responsibilities but never forget that interconnections are also very important,” said Arko. “We can do it together!”
Arko continues to be an extraordinary example of leadership through her drive and work-ethic.
“If you want to be effective in the military, you need to put in the work and only through that will your goals be achieved,” said Arko. “But you have to try!”
