Spc. Melody Kirsch, wheeled vehicle mechanic, Forward Support Company, 4th Engineer Battalion, removes the air filter from a Caterpillar D7F bulldozer during efforts to contain the Waldo Canyon Fire at the U.S. Air Force Academy, June 28, 2012. As horizontal construction engineers used bulldozers, excavators and various support vehicles to clear earth in an effort to stop the wildfire’s progress, large amounts of soot and dust quickly clogged the vehicles air filters, causing them to overheat unless maintenance soldiers cleaned or replaced the filters.
