    Hampton Roads Naval Museum

    April 12, 1975. Task Group 76.4, and Iwo Jima Class Amphibious Assault Ship USS Okinawa (LPH 3), among other #USNavy warships, take part in Operation Eagle Pull. The airlift’s objective is to evacuate over 250 US and foreign nationals, including over 30 press correspondents. Among the evacuees; then Cambodian President Saukham Khoy and US Ambassador to Cambodia, John Gunter Dean. Years later, Ambassador Dean remembered his service, and is quoted in the post from his autobiography “Danger Zones: A Diplomat’s fight for America’s Interests.” (US Navy Graphic by Max Lonzanida/Released).
