Airman 1st Class Nicholas Lewis, 374th Civil Engineer Squadron electrical power production apprentice, retracts the arresting tape back into the system after an annual certification test of the aircraft arresting system at Yokota Air Base, Japan, April 29, 2019. Aircraft arresting systems serve primarily to save lives by preventing aircraft from overrunning runways in cases where the pilot is unable to stop the aircraft during landing.
