FORT BLISS, Texas - Cpl. Josue J. Carbajal, a wheeled vehicle mechanic assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 1st Armored Division and native of Pasadena, Texas, climbs over the “Weaver” event, a series of ascending and descending logs that Soldiers must weave themselves over and under in succession without falling, at the Fort Bliss Obstacle Course, May 15, during the 1AD Best Warrior Competition. The Soldiers battled both fatigue and the El Paso heat as they competed against each other for the best possible time during the course, which was conducted after a 12-mile ruck march and an Army Combat Fitness Test, vying for the title of 1AD Soldier and Noncommissioned Officer of the year. The competition was designed to stress the physical endurance and agility of the Soldiers, as well as include an interview with the division operations sergeant major, to determine the 1AD Soldier and Noncommissioned Officer of the year for 2020. in order to determine the winners, demonstrating the perseverance and dedication that embodies the division. This year's competition was won by Staff Sgt. James Ferrone, a native of Naperville, Illinois and cavalry scout assigned to Troop B, 2nd Squadron, 13th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, and Spc. Gage Paraschos, a native of Mount Bethel, Pennsylvania and cavalry scout assigned to Troop C, 2-13 CAV, both of whom displayed their knowledge, physical prowess, determination and excellence throughout the competition.
