U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Brett Wood of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., treats U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ryan Stumpff of Fort Bragg, N.C., for a head wound received when he was shot by an insurgent July 4 in Khowst province, Afghanistan. Stumpff and Pfc. Michael Halberg of Battle Ground, Wash., (left, behind Stumpff) were evacuated via hoist from a mountain cliff by U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Patrick Rogers of Galveston, Texas (right). The Valkyrie medevac crew is made up of U.S. Army National Guard soldiers from Texas and Mississippi and is currently deployed in support of the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade in Regional Command-East.
