After several days of work, heavy construction engineers with the 242nd Engineer Company out of Coffeyville, Kansas, prepared a site for a new physical fitness training field at the Great Plains Joint Training Center in Salina, Kansas. The field will be irrigated using water from a neighboring pond the engineers also created. In conjunction with existing resources like a weapons qualification range and soldier readiness program site, the new facility at GPJTC will enable units across the state to complete more major training events all at the same location, improving efficiency and readiness.
