SILVERDALE, Wash. (July 29, 2020) “The missile compartment is the center of the boat and when you’re the center of the boat, you’re the center of the universe. Our main purpose is strategic deterrence... it is the number one priority of the United States Armed Forces. So there’s something very prideful and fulfilling about being a missile technician," said Missile Technician 3rd Class Sawyer Damato, from Maryville, Tennessee, USS Maine (SSBN 741). In 2020, Maine's Gold crew officially returned the boat to strategic service, when they deployed on their first patrol in more than three years.
