"Shima bananas" grow on a tree in Yomiton Village, Okinawa. The small island bananas are very sweet, and while relatively cheap in markets, are readily available in many residential back yards. Okinawa Prefecture is the southernmost prefecture in Japan, and is made up of hundreds of islands. The main island is home to Kadena Air Base.
