Lt. Col. Joel Gleason, commander of U.S. Army Garrison Okinawa and Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 101 in Okinawa, with his sons Kipp, Colton, Cooper and Finn, prepare to bring a candle lit with the Peace Light to a neighborhood chaplain in Grafenwoehr, Germany in December 2018. Every year in the weeks leading up to Christmas, a scout from the Austrian Scouting organization travels to Nazareth, Israel, and lights a lantern with the Eternal Flame. Scouts all over Europe and across the world then pass that flame with candles, lanterns and lamps to adjacent towns and scouting units until everyone has access to the Peace Light. The chaplain planned to use the flame during a Christmas Eve candlelight service.
