California Army National Guard aviators from the 40th Combat Aviation Brigade and military helicopter managers of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) work together and struggle to lift a 500-pound firefighting bucket onto a platform Sept. 26, 2020, at the Creek Fire helicopter base in Auberry, California. The teams concluded the day’s mission and loaded the bucket onto their CH-47 Chinook prior to returning to Cal Guard’s Fresno Aviation facility. When full, this bucket can hold 2,000 gallons of water. It takes a team to maneuver the bucket for it to be operational. The Creek Fire ignited Sept. 4 and three weeks later it has destroyed nearly 300,000 acres. As of Sept. 26 it isn’t 50 percent contained. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Staff Sgt. Eddie Siguenza)
