Glass shards are still visible on the ground in front of the North Highlands Apartment Complex where a fire broke out in one of the units, Oct. 1, 2020, North Highlands, California. U.S. Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Siguenza, a mass communication specialist for the 69th Public Affairs Detachment, was on his way to work when he noticed the apartment complex on fire. He checked nearby neighbors to make sure no one was in harm’s way and assisted local firefighters and first responders when they arrived at the scene on Sept. 18, 2020.
