U.S. Marine Corps Brig. Gen. William J. Bowers, commanding general of Marine Corps Installation Pacific (MCIPAC) and Sgt. Maj. Joy Kitashima, the sergeant major of MCIPAC, present the Navy Civilian Service Commendation Medal, to Mia Mejia, the logging program manager with Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS), for her successful support in the island-wide COVID-19 mitigation effort, Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan, Oct. 30, 2020. MCCS staff and Task Force Permanent Change of Station ensured Marines, Sailors, civilians and family members were taken care of while transitioning to Okinawa and executing their period of restriction of movement (ROM). They provided assistance to families and Marines with meals, sponsors, and medical transportation, and in addition, gathered, compiled and processed data for up to 150 travelers per inbound Patriot Express flight. Due to the guidelines practiced to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 while on ROM, it resulted in zero uncontained positive COVID-19 cases. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Karis Mattingly)
