James Gardner, Shelbyville, Ind., and Frank Trautman, Zionsville, Ind., salute the wreath of the 106th Infantry Division, also known as the Golden Lions during the 21st Annual Veterans’ Memorial Commemoration service held Aug. 11. The unit trained and deployed from Camp Atterbury during World War II. Both men were also POWs during the war. The event included a prelude by the Southern Indiana Pipes and Drums, a 21-gun rifle salute by the Camp Atterbury Color Guard team, the playing of taps, and a wreath ceremony to honor units and veterans that have deployed through Camp Atterbury since World War II.
