U.S. Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Geovannie Rios-Santos and Air Force Airman Nathan Lott, 312th Training Squadron fire protection students, combine joint service skills while carving out a hole on a combustible roof during their vertical ventilation training at the Louis F. Garland Department of Defense Fire Academy on Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas, Dec. 10, 2020. Lott’s first cut into the roof was on the furthest downwind side of the opening from the ladder to prevent hot and toxic gases from blowing into Rios-Santos and himself.
