200413-N-SS900-1001 BREMERTON, Wash. (April 13, 2020) A coin design created for the running club aboard Nimitz-class nuclear aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) for its 2020 running challenge. The coins were awarded to Sailors who completed the challenge. The purpose of the challenge was to promote the health and fitness of the crew during the COVID-19 pandemic in response to the closure of gyms and tracks. The “70” has a U.S. flag on the front, with the back design inspired by Pacific Northwest Native American heritage illustrations. The bottom of the coin has Vinson on the front, with Mount Rainier, the name of the challenge and a Seattle skyline on the back to show the region the ship was in during the time of the challenge.
