200509-N-DQ752-1015 PACIFIC OCEAN (May 9, 2020) Hull Maintenance Technician 3rd Class Ryan Mixon (left) and Hull Maintenance Technician Fireman Erek Ellery weld a piece of metal aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68). Nimitz, along with Carrier Air Wing 17 and Destroyer Squadron 9, is underway conducting a composite unit training exercise (COMPTUEX). COMPTUEX is an intensive exercise designed to fully integrate units of the carrier strike group, while testing a strike group’s ability as a whole to carry out sustained combat operations from the sea.
