A close up of the timeline and image tiles on the Coast Guard Heritage Wall in the Juneau Federal Building, December 28, 2020.
Local live edge wood slabs were incorporated into the installation to render the timeline dates. An Alder tree in Tenakee was selected and was then planed and inlayed with walnut. The images on the wall were selected to represent events every 10 years since 1860. Selection of just one event every 10 years was the most difficult part of the design. To accommodate this limitation, stand-off posts were used so the image tiles can be easily changed to highlight different events during the same period.
