WATERBURY, Conn. (Jan. 8, 2021) Monsignor John Bevins, left, speaks to Secretary of the Navy Kenneth J. Braithwaite, during an award ceremony honoring Navy Chaplain Lt. Thomas M. Conway at the Basilica of Immaculate Conception in Waterbury, Conn. Bevins, a retired Navy Chaplain, accepted the Navy Cross on behalf of Conway. Conway was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for his heroic efforts aboard the USS Indianapolis (CA 35) when it was attacked and sunk by an enemy submarine in 1945.
