California Army National Guardsmen with the 270th Military Police Company, 185th Military Police Battalion, 49th Military Police Brigade, were amongst more than 1,000 citizen Soldiers assisting with security at the Capitol in Sacramento, California, Jan. 20, 2021 during President Biden’s inauguration. Standing behind a temporary metal gate, the Soldiers scanned the street that is adjacent to the historic building. Hundreds more occupied positions blocks away from the Capitol, and several others were assigned to protect important facilities throughout the state including dozens of Cal Guard armories. As the presidential powers transitioned, Cal Guard forces were activated to protect and defend lives, property and rights of all Californians. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Staff Sgt.
