1st Lt. Carlos Hernandez and another U.S. Marine with the Law Enforcement detachment, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), provide landing zone security as an MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor aircraft with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 (Reinforced) lands with the Non-combatant Evacuation Operation (NEO) team in the Central Training Area, Okinawa, Japan, Jan. 23, 2021. A NEO is the evacuation of civilians and nonessential military personnel from danger in an overseas country to a designated safe haven. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the America Expeditionary Strike Group in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
