U.S. Marines Corps Lance Cpl. Michael Lobianco, with the Forward Command Element (FCE), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), prepares to drive a light tactical all-terrain vehicle onto a CH-53 Super Stallion with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 (Reinforced), during an extract of the Non-combatant Evacuation Operation (NEO) team from the Central Training Area, Okinawa, Japan, Jan. 23, 2021. A NEO is the evacuation of civilians and nonessential military personnel from danger in an overseas country to a designated safe haven. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the America Expeditionary Strike Group in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
