The 19th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, Sgt. Maj. Troy E. Black, addresses Marines with School of Infantry-West (SOI-W) at Camp Pendleton, Ca, Feb. 10, 2021. The Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps conducted the visit to view the new Infantry Marine Course (IMC) first-hand and address the staff responsible for implementing the changes to infantry training. Starting with SOI-W, both SOI-W and SOI-East, will each run two pilots courses, staggered from the other school, in order to learn and modify the period of instruction as necessary. This process will take over a year, but affords the SOI and the fleet Marine force time to evaluate IMC graduates to ensure the service needs are being met with this enhanced infantry Marine.
