Marine Corps Maj. Brad “HJOP” Leeman, Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 23, conducts a vertical landing in an F-35B aboard the Italian aircraft carrier ITS Cavour. The landing marked the first time that an F-35 has landed aboard the carrier. Leeman and Royal Navy Lt. Cmdr. Barry “Baz” Pilkington, VX-23, conducted the fly-on of the two F-35B variants from Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland to the Italian aircraft carrier ITS Cavour (CVH 550) March 1, 2021. The aircraft will be used by the F-35 Integrated Test Force (ITF) and Italian Navy personnel for the F-35B Sea Trials aboard the carrier.
