The Moderna version of the COVID-19 vaccination being administered aboard Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, California starting March 2, is a two dose vaccination, requiring 28 days between doses to be optimally effective. The first dose give just over 60 percent immunity to the Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019, and primes the immune system to recognize the hull (outer shell) of the virus. The second dose causes a bigger immune response as the immune system recognizes the virus hull immediately and as a result can cause additional symptoms such as fever and aches, but in the end will offer over 94 percent immunity to various strains of the virus if they use the same carrier hull.
