U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Adrian Lewis, a field artillery cannoneer with Echo Battery, Battalion Landing Team 3/4, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), and a native of Milton, Florida, pulls the lanyard on an M777 towed 155 mm howitzer during a direct fire range at Combined Arms Training Center Camp Fuji, Japan, March 15, 2021. Direct fire ranges train the Marines of Echo Battery to quickly aim and fire at visible targets in the event of enemy contact. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
